About

Hi, my name is Louis Villard and this is my blog, Spiltwine.

About Spiltwine

Spiltwine.com is a wine collage of sorts.  I’ll be posting video interviews with sommeliers and winemakers, also suggesting wines myself and letting you know what the top dogs in the London wine scene are drinking.

Overall keeping a general news update on the world of wine, concentrated in the restaurant sector.

I will endeavour to bridge that long gap between you and the wine trade.

But it won’t stop there!  I’m a bit of a movie fanatic so might also post a reviews up every once in a while!

About Me

I’ve worked in the wine industry for over ten years.  I started out as a cellar rat in Santa Barbara (Rusack Vineyards, Fess Parker Winery), this lead to my moving to France and eventually becoming assistant winemaker at Dom. La Sauvageonne in the Terrasses du Larzac, down in the Languedoc.

I then moved to England and embraced the world as a sommelier working at a few different hotels and restaurants in the south (Ashdown Park Hotel, Jeremy’s at Borde Hill) then moved to London and spent a bit of time as a wine pourer person at the Savoy Grill (Marcus Wareing).

Now I freelance, splitting my time between journalism and helping wine companies organise consumer shows.  I’ve contributed to Imbibe Magazine, reFRESH and been on the Decanter tasting panel as well as judge in the Sommelier Wine Awards.  I also helped launch Imbibe’s video page (you can see it here www.youtube.com/imbibemag).

I also help restaurants as an ontrade consultant advising them what to put on their wine-lists while training their staff too.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Oenology and am a certified sommelier; I am keeping up my sommelier studies and on track to sit the Master Sommelier exams.
